Sycamore – Beam

Sycamore is a highly sustainable hardwood due to its vigorous nature and common availability around the UK. As a timber it is fine grained, light coloured, dimensionally stable with a hard and smooth finish. Expect interesting grain patterns and a distinctive bright sheen that really makes it stand out, excellent for feature pieces, especially with a waney edge. Traditionally used for everything food related as it doesn’t stain food or fabric, also used in furniture, flooring and carving, a Swiss-army knife timber, safe for most uses – although don’t expect it to blend in with plainer hardwoods!
