Lime is is a vigorous, common and so very sustainable hardwood with wide spread growth around the UK. Prized for its extremely pale, regular and soft grain with resistance to warping and stability, this timber is sought for wood carving, excelling beyond all other woods for this use. Due to its smooth texture, carving chisels and gauges to slide easily through without stuttering on the grain, polishing to a beatifully smooth finish with relative ease. It was traditionally used for piano keys and decorative carving primarily, with many of the most intricate and detailed carvings done with this timber.
