Tree Surgeons Scotland
From small urban gardens to large rural estates we cover all aspects of forestry and woodland management, including tree surgery, timber harvesting, tree maintenance, tree removal, stump removal and more.
If you are looking for experienced, highly regarded tree surgeons in Scotland it is time to call the team at Epic Tree Care. We operate throughout the North East of Scotland offering cost-effective solutions for the management of our client’s trees.
Our clients include commercial property owners, local authorities, conservation groups and residential homeowners. We operate throughout Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Banff, Banffshire, Elgin, Forres, Fochabers, Huntly, Moray, Turriff and beyond.
Prioritising Safety
The job of the tree surgeon on one rife with dangers; from working at height while dangling from a rope, to operating dangerous machinery like chainsaws and stump grinders. Any slip could result in severe injury to the tree surgeon and damage to the client’s property.
As such, every member of our team is expertly trained and rigorously tested to ensure they are comfortable with all aspects of the work. Even so, and while rare, accidents can happen. Our clients can rest easy, however, knowing we operate with £5 million in liability insurance and £10 in employee liability insurance.
Our team members are also instructed in the proper use of PPE (personal protection equipment) which they wear at all times. And, when necessary, we conduct a full risk assessment of a site in order to plan for a particularly difficult aspect of the job site.
Our Services
Our tree care services include:
Tree Inspections
We offer both commercial and residential tree inspection services. For commercial clients, we work tirelessly to ensure they have all the necessary data about their trees right at their fingertips. That way they can make informed decisions about which trees need to be pruned, which need to be braced and which need to be removed.
Most of our tree inspections and surveys are ordered by our commercial clients, as well as local authorities. Nonetheless, we still get a fair number of tree inspection requests from our residential clients. We are pleased to be able to offer our inspection services to them including safety advice, health reports and planning surveys that can help homeowners prepare for installing extensions or planning conversions.
Tree Removal
Whether your tree is in a nice open area or tucked away in a hard-to-reach space we can remove it using our years of experience and our state-of-the-art equipment. Every member of our team has been thoroughly trained in working in any type of space, on any type of tree. They devise an action plan ahead of time and then execute it to perfection.
We have also perfected the art of removing trees with minimal physical engagement by the tree surgeon using miniloaders and arb carts instead of our tree surgeon’s bodies. This reduces the chance of injury and minimises wear and tear on the tree surgeon’s body.
Tree Bracing
In most cases, we practice flexible bracing. This type of bracing uses specially designed ropes and attachments to provide support to weak branches and other parts of the tree. Flexible bracing is available as either a tethering system or a limiting system. A tethering system is designed to catch a branch should it fail, thereby preventing damage to people and property. As the name implies the limiting system limits the movement of weak branches or the stem thereby reducing the chance they will fail.
Our expert tree surgeons assess the state of your tree and determine which type of bracing system is most appropriate. And regardless of which bracing system is chosen, the goal is to allow a certain amount of movement, which is in the tree’s nature. Before we install any bracing we will assess not only the state of the tree, but the amount of human traffic that typically encounters the tree.
Tree Stump Removal
If you have ever tried to remove a tree stump on your own you know how difficult and labour-intensive the process can be. A better idea than attempting tree stump removal on your own is to call Epic Tree Care. We have the experience, training and stump removal machines necessary to reduce the job to a quick and thorough process.
One of these machines is called a “stump grinder” and as you can imagine it grinds the stump into sawdust while doing minimal damage to the surrounding area. This method is much faster and less problematic than the old-fashioned way tree surgeons used to remove stumps. That being the process of physically pulling the entire stump out of the ground. That method had a high impact on the surrounding area. Often a much higher impact than if the stump were simply left in place.
Our equipment and methodologies enable us to thoroughly remove tree and hedge stumps even if they are disturbingly close to a building. When the stump is ground the resulting hole will be filled with wood and soil mulch.
Tree Pollarding
With tree pollarding your tree is pruned to the same points on a regular schedule. This ensures the tree never gets too large which could result in you having to remove it. If you have never ordered tree pollarding for your tree it is important that you hire a tree surgeon in Scotland who is properly qualified for this type of work, else they could do more harm than good.
At Epic Tree Care we have years of experience with tree pollarding and will make sure that, at the end of the process, your tree has a balanced shape that will enable future pruning. Just remember, tree pollarding is not a one-and-done project. Your tree should be re-pollarded on a regular schedule. Our tree surgeon can advise you on an appropriate schedule for your tree.
Tree Pruning
Tree pruning is one of our most popular services. Regular pruning helps ensure your tree or trees do not become a threat to people or property, will encourage robust growth and will keep your trees away from sensitive utility cables.
Wild trees – those in the forest – typically do not need tree pruning. But trees that share space with humans need to be in good health and not represent a threat to life, limb or property. If you enjoy your trees and want to ensure they are with you for the long-haul, regular tree pruning can help ensure that.

EXCELLENT Based on 93 reviews Posted on Google Elaine RushantTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have just purchased a property in Cullen and the trees in our garden needed to be pruned back as the garden was very overgrown. We were extremely happy with the job carried out by Epic Tree Care Limited. Elaine provided us with a clear and detailed quote. When the work was carried out the whole team were lovely and were really helpful in passing on their knowledge about the various species in our garden. Jason also fully explained what they'd done and what they hadn't (nesting birds!) so we knew exactly how the job was progressing. A great job done! I wouldn't hesitate to use their services again in future.Posted on Google Lorna AdamTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The trees were cut up and left in a neat pile as we had requested. We have used Epic several times to remove large windblown and damaged trees from our garden and they always do the work very efficiently and expertly at a reasonable cost. Epic also deals with getting consent from Moray Council under the tree preservation order which covers all of the trees in our garden, so we do not need to worry about the paperwork.Posted on Google Beatrix EtienneTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve used Epic Tree Care twice now, and on both occasions they’ve delivered excellent service and great value for money. Their pricing is very competitive compared to others I looked at, and they always carry out a survey and provide a free quote before starting any work. The team arrived on time, got straight to work, and were professional and courteous throughout. They did a great job and left my garden clean and tidy afterwards. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them and will definitely be using their services again in the future.Posted on Google Diane WilsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Epic Tree Care recently dealt with a 20m-plus poplar that had been blown to a precarious angle in the last storm. Frequently Asked Questions
What does a tree surgeon do?
A tree surgeon or arborist is a highly-trained professional who performs a variety of tasks related to the care and maintenance of trees. Tree surgeons are most visible in the aftermath of extreme weather events when they can be seen cutting back or removing damaged trees on roadways. The job of the tree surgeon involves tree pruning, tree planting, tree relocating and tree removal as well as treating tree diseases and infestations. They also consult in cases where trees and developers come into conflict or when someone desires to work on a tree protected by a Tree Protection Order (TPO), or a tree located in a conservation area.
Can I remove one of my trees myself?
You may, repeat may, have the right to remove one of the trees on your property yourself, but it is not advisable unless you have experience felling trees. A mature tree can weigh 3 or 4 tonnes which can do considerable damage to your home, not to mention people, should you lose control of the removal process. But there is also the possibility you may not have the right to remove one of your trees without permission. If there is a Tree Protection Order active for the tree or the tree is in a Conservation area you will need to obtain permission from your local authority before removing it.
What happens to the branches you remove or the trees you cut down?
All waste from a jobsite is disposed of in full compliance with the government’s safe disposal regulations. But not all the byproducts of work are disposed of. Branches, trunks and stumps may be cut into logs for firewood or put through our chipper and transformed into chips that can be used as a landscaping element. If you would like to keep any logs or chips just let us know beforehand and we will be happy to turn them over to you.
Why do trees need pruning?
There are a variety of reasons why trees need to be pruned. For one, pruning may enhance the structure and strength of the tree. Pruning can also remove any dangerous or dead branches. Pruning is also done to make sure branches do not come in contact with power lines and to reduce the amount of shade a tree casts on a property. And pruning is often called for to make sure there is a safe distance between a tree and a house or business.
How much does tree surgery cost?
The cost depends on a number of factors including how many trees are involved, the size of the trees, whether they are easy or difficult to access, the type of work that needs to be done and how many tree surgeons are required to perform the work properly. We will be happy to provide you with a no-obligation quotation. Simply get in touch with Epic Tree Care and let us know what type of work you need to be done on your tree or trees.
