Poplar – Beam

One of the commonly grown larger trees, Poplar is a uniform grained, light hardwood timber both in colour and density. It takes a stain beautifully and doesn’t tend to splinter, so will often be used in pieces intended to be painted or treated, but also good for any application where light weight and a bit of flexibility is desired. Traditionally used for horse drawn wagon floors, it has found modern applications in worktops for campervans and kitchen units in general. Good for beginners as it is relatively even grain, cheaper than many hardwoods per cubic foot, forgiving and flexible as a timber.
